“Black Thursday”

Shoppers put down their plates early on Thanksgiving Day to stand their ground in line at their favorite stores for the “Black Thursday and Friday” sales.

Lines were wrapped around the buildings at both Target and Best Buy in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake, Va., as early as 9 pm Thursday with retailers seeking a head start on the holiday shopping season.

“We have been sitting here since about 7:30,” Mary Scorne said with a laugh. “We came right after our dinner!” laughs Mary Scorne with her daughter.   Promptness paid off for Scorne and her daughter as they were wrapped up warm in the front of the line.

Target added extra security, because of problems with injuries and chaos during previous “Black Friday” sales.  “We will let in 30 people at a time at the time of opening!” yells one of the security guards listing the rest of the rules.  Target’s preparation resulted in no problems.

Department stores, such as Macy’s, also opened at midnight for some special deals for the early bird shoppers.  They are also providing deals throughout the rest of the holiday weekend.

Young people across the country also were a huge part of the “Black Friday” frenzy as they camped out for the release of the Nike Air Jordan Cement 3’s sneakers early Friday morning.  Lines began to form at 10pm Thursday night outside of stores such as Footlocker and DTLR

According to MarketWatch.com, retailers were joyful in the result of a 6.6% increase from last year’s “Black Friday” sales.

The next big day for shopaholics is “Cyber Monday” where the savings come with online shopping.  -No lines and no late nights!  Companies not only are initiating internet sales, but some are also offering free shipping such as Steve Madden.
