The nation's capital has HIV/AIDS rates dramatically higher than most cities and higher than some African countries.  

The HIV/AIDS epidemic in D.C. has been an on going issue for decades. Although the rate has seen a 44% fall as recent as 2015, D.C. once held the highest rate of the epidemic in the US and still remains one of the highest infected areas.
