Summer Concert Preview

Attention all music lovers: it is that time of year again.  The season of ice cream, block parties and concerts is here!  If you cannot get away for a vacation this summer, why not treat yourself to a night with the stars.  Since school is out, adding a popular concert to the equation is not rocket science.

Every year, New York City‘s Hot 97 FM presents one of the biggest shows of the season.  Summer Jam ’06 is promised to showcase some of today’s hottest hip-hop and R&B artists. This year’s lineup will include Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, Busta Rhymes, Sean Paul, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Dem Franchize Boyz and Remy Ma, to name a few.

Lauren Whitten, a sophomore majoring in marketing at HowardUniversity, looks forward to attending this year’s show at Giant’s Stadium.  "I’ve never been but, I have friends who have gone before.  It’s something I always hear people talk about," she said.  Whitten knows that she must stay on top of her game.  "Tickets normally sell out pretty fast," says the native New Yorker.

On the West Coast, 100.3 The Beat LA hosts its annual Summer Jam concert.  In 2005, it was called the Hummer Summer Jam and took place at the HomeDepotCenter.  "Summer Jam sells out every year," stated Brianna Swan, a sophomore majoring in human development at HowardUniversity.  "Everybody tries to win tickets through the radio."

Some of last year’s performers included Kanye West, Lil’ Kim, Keyshia Cole, Jermaine Dupri, Toni Braxton, Damian Marley, and Common.  The Beat has yet to announce this year’s performers.  Yet, Swan still plans to attend.  Once tickets are purchased the California native went on to say that she must purchase a new outfit.

Down in the South, Atlanta‘s Hot 107.9 FM throws its annual Birthday Bash.  Yasmine Parrish, a sophomore majoring in fashion merchandising at HowardUniversity, is a regular attendee.  "I went to Birthday Bash every year," she said.  Last year marked the station’s 10th Anniversary.  Artists such as Ludacris, David Banner, Young Jeezy, Ying Yang Twins, Three 6 Mafia and T.I. took the stage.

Unfortunately, the Georgia native will be residing in DC this summer and will break her faithful tradition of getting "crunk."  Birthday Bash ’06 is intended to sell out the HiFi Buys Amphitheatre.  "They have really great local and national artists.  It’s one of Atlanta‘s must-see concerts," she said.

Now that you have been enlightened with a preview of this summer’s biggest concerts, there is no time to waste!  Score tickets to these amazing shows by visiting the station’s sites at http://www.hot97.com, http://www.thebeatla.com, or http://www.hot1079atl.com.  If you are feeling lucky, keep it locked to your local radio station for a chance to win.  Don’t miss out on an exclusive event where "anybody who’s anybody" will be there.
