Howard University Hosts Media Town Hall, ‘Reporting While Black: Confronting Systemic Racism’

By Braxton Babb, NewsVision reporter

Some 55 years after the Kerner Commission revealed a scathing report which included the lack of diversity in America’s newsrooms, systemic racism still exists. A recent Pew Research study of more than 12,000 journalists found that newsroom diversity and racism are still an issue. On April 26, journalism, education and diversity experts joined Howard University students in a town hall, “Reporting While Black: Confronting Systemic Racism.” This event was co-hosted by The Black Executive & Student Training Program, known as The BEST Program, and the Howard University Department of Media, Journalism and Film. NewsVision reporter Braxton Babb has the story.
