In the nation’s capital, the Metro transit system was notably affected by a reduction of riders during the pandemic. As commuters returned to the rails, many decided to skip paying the fare. Metro officials say fare evasion costs about $40 million a year, and last fall they started making it a crime in DC and Virginia, and a civil offense in DC. NewsVision reporter Lindsey Desir talks to a rider who was charged with fare evasion.
