With the return of Howard University’s homecoming, the highly anticipated Greek Step Show is set to be one of the most attended events this week.
Divine Nine fraternities and sororities, along with other campus organizations, are scheduled to perform for the Howard community on Friday, Oct. 20, at Burr Gymnasium doors open at 7 p.m. The show is set to start at 8 p.m.
However, there is still uncertainty about exactly which organizations will be performing. The Howard community can expect Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Alpha Chapter and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Beta Chapter to appear on the stage.
Branson Brooks, a member of Phi Beta Sigma, will be performing alongside his fraternity brothers for the first time. “Being able to break the barrier for me is what I’m looking forward to the most,” he said.
“We’ve been working on this since before summer,” he continued. Brooks promises that their hard work will pay off. “You can expect for us to really just have a good time. We really have a good connection with each other.”
Every homecoming Divine Nine organizations compete against each other for a cash prize and campus bragging rights.The Howard chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha took home the first place prize of $2,500 last year. The fraternity is hoping to reclaim the throne and gain bragging rights on the Yard.
“From the costumes to the theme, to the choreography, [people can] expect an ice cold performance,” Raymir Johnson, member of the Alphas, said.
Other greek organizations declined to confirm their attendance for Friday, fueling rumors across campus about possible no-shows.
