Proof Murdered In Shooting

Proof, a prominent member of D12, the six man hip-hop group out of Detroit, was killed in a shooting at a Detroit night club, early Tuesday morning.

According to police, Proof, real name DeShaun Holton was one of two shooting victims at the CCC Club on east Eight Mile Road, near Gratiot Avenue.

Detroit’s Local 4 news station reported that the club was completely evacuated when police arrived to the scene just after 5 a.m.  Proof was taken to St. John Holy Cross Hospital, while the second victim was taken to St. John Hospital, police said.

Both victims suffered a gunshot wound to the head.  Proof was pronounced dead on arrival.  The second victim remains in the hospital in critical condition after previously being reported that he was dead.  His name was not released.

A spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department said that "an altercation occurred [inside the club], and shots rang out," but would not discuss the shooting further, as the 30-year-old rapper’s next of kin have not yet been notified of his murder.

Police are searching for the suspected gunman but a description has not been made available.

The rapper and producer, is the long time friend of hip hop star, Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers. He served as the rapper’s best man when he remarried his wife, Kim Mathers in January and in the movie “8 Mile” Mekhi Phifer portrayed Proof as “Lil’ Tac.”
