“Our Black Year” Seeks to Spark Change in Black Consumer Spending

Back in early 2009, Maggie Anderson and her husband, John, made a one-year commitment to spend money solely at black-owned businesses in Illinois. They called it the Empowerment Experiment. Now, Anderson is reminiscing on her journey and enlightening listeners on her national tour for “Our Black Year,” which chronicles the yearlong challenge.
