How Reese Is Being Moved From The Windy City To The ATL

On Apr 6 the Chicago Sky announced they have traded Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream. The trade sends Reese and the right to swap 2028 second-round picks to Atlanta, while Chicago received first-round picks in the 2027 and 2028 drafts.

Angel Reese herself took to social media to react by posting a photo with her in an Atlanta Dream uniform, saying, “An Angel’s Dream ATL what up.”

The Atlanta Dream have already seen a win from the trade, gaining around 18,000 followers on Instagram hours after the trade and within 24 hours, Reese Atlanta Dream jerseys sold out. The Dream’s championship odds improved, indicating a greater likelihood of winning the championship. Atlanta’s odds of winning a championship increased from 18-1 to 10-1 according to ESPN Research.

The Dream hopes to see this off-court success turn into on-court success, pairing Reese with 2025 MVP Candidate Allisha Gray and 2025 All-Star Rhyne Howard. The only problem for the Dream now is free agency.

With the new WNBA Collective Bargaining Agreement going into effect and the raises in salary and salary cap, every player not on a rookie contract (with the exception of two players) is a current free agent, meaning Reese playing with Gray and Howard is in no way guaranteed. But Chicago’s plan after the Reese trade is no guarantee either.

The Chicago Sky traded away Reese, a two-time All-Star and two-time WNBA rebounding leader, for two picks that will become two future players. Although draft picks show promise, risking the all-time leader for consecutive double-doubles for two players that could pan out to never fill the shoes Reese left in Chicago can be seen as puzzling.

Chicago Sky General Manager Jeff Pagliocca released a statement on the trade.

“This trade is designed to achieve roster balance and represents a great opportunity for all parties,” Pagliocca said.
