Janeese Lewis-George will become the next Mayor of the District of Columbia. On January 2, 2027, she will officially succeed outgoing Mayor Muriel Bowser, who did not seek a fourth term in office.

At the end of the Nov. 3 election, Lewis-George, the Democratic nominee, had 82.4% of the vote while independent candidate Rhonda Hamilton finished far behind with 10%. D.C. Statehood Party candidate Robert Gross ended with 5%.

The 38-year-old Howard Law graduate won her election as Ward 4 councilmember in November 2020.

The Nov. 3 ballot also ushered in a new D.C. delegate to Congress. Robert White was successful in his quest to replace longtime Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton as a non-voting delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.
