Since 1827 with the publication of Freedom’s Journal, the Black Press has been on the front lines of history, telling the stories that the mainstream press may not report. These stories are being preserved thanks to the Black Press Archives Digitization Project. The projet began in 1973 between the National Newspapers Publishers Association (NNPA) and Howard University’s Moorland-Spingarn Research Center. The archive represents more than 2,000 newspaper titles from the Unites States, Africa and the African Diaspora. NewsVision Reporter Patrique Henry has the story.
